Carl Gilbow Obituary

Carl V. Gilbow, 94, passed away July17, 2025.  He was born in Canton and lived most of his life in the Cuyahoga Falls and Tallmadge area

Carl served as a Commander in the Coast Guard Reserves and was the District Chief and trainer for the Akron Fire Department before retiring in 1984 after 30 years of service. In his retirement he enjoyed driving the bus for Headstart, golf, watching movies, and spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Vincent and Hildegard; son, Dennis; and brother and sister-in-law Thomas and Patricia Gilbow.

Carl is survived by his wife, Shirley; sons, Gregory (Susie), Timothy (Jill), Jon (Shannon), Carl (Wei); daughter-in-law, Debbie; grandchildren, Greg (Winnie), Justin, Kayleigh (Ian), Kyle, Celeste, Mardi, Alex, and Adam; six great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation will be Tuesday, July 22, 2025 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Donovan Funeral Home, 17 Southwest Ave., Tallmadge.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, July 23, 2025, 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Victory, 73 North Ave, Tallmadge, with Father Mike Williamson officiating. 

Interment will be at Northlawn Cemetery, 4742 State Rd., Penninsula, OH 44264.
